Dr. Dale E. Klein, Ph.D., is an Independent Director of the Company. Dr. Kleins qualifications include nuclear energy research, regulation, technology and safety knowledge and experience, as well as experience in environmental matters and governmental affairs. His senior leadership experience demonstrated as the Chairman of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission is also important to the Board. Dr. Klein was Commissioner from 2009 to 2010 and Chairman from 2006 through 2009 of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. He also served as Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Nuclear, Chemical and Biological Defense Programs from 2001 through 2006. Dr. Klein has more than 40 years of experience in the nuclear energy industry since 2010.

Southern Leadership Team
Elected by the shareholders, the Southern's board of directors comprises two types of representatives: Southern inside directors who are chosen from within the company, and outside directors, selected externally and held independent of Southern. The board's role is to monitor Southern's management team and ensure that shareholders' interests are well served. Southern's inside directors are responsible for reviewing and approving budgets prepared by upper management to implement core corporate initiatives and projects. On the other hand, Southern's outside directors are responsible for providing unbiased perspectives on the board's policies.
