Mr. David R. Berz is an Lead Independent Director of the Company. He was a director of the Company since February 2014 and the Lead Independent Director since the spinoff of SEACOR Marine on June 1, 2017 . From August 1985 through December 2013, Mr. Berz was a partner of Weil, Gotshal Manges LLP, where he headed the law firms environmental practice. Mr. Berz is a nationally acknowledged authority on U.S. and international environmental law. As a litigator, he served as lead counsel in civil and criminal environmental matters involving federal and state water, air and hazardous waste and substance statutes. He regularly counseled multinational corporations and boards of directors in developing environmental compliance and social responsibility programs and serves as environmental counsel to financial institutions. He coauthored the threevolume treatise Environmental Law in Real Estate and Business Transactions and frequently lectures and writes on a broad range of environmental topics. Mr. Berz received the American Bar Associations 2011 Award for Excellence in Environmental and Resources Stewardship. Mr. Berz serves on the Board of Trustees of the Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia and on the Board of Governors of the American Jewish Committee. He is a past president of the Deans Council of the George Washington University School of Law. since 2014.
