Mr. James A. Bowen is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of First Trust Specialty Finance Financial Opportunities Fund. He is Chief Executive Officer of First Trust Advisors and First Trust Portfolios L.P. and, until January 23, 2012, also served as President and Chief Executive Officer of the First Trust Funds. Mr. Bowen also serves on the Executive Committee. He has over 30 years of experience in the investment company business in sales, sales management and executive management. Mr. Bowen has served as a Trustee of each Fund since its inception and of the First Trust Funds since 1999.

Elected by the shareholders, the First Trust's board of directors comprises two types of representatives: First Trust inside directors who are chosen from within the company, and outside directors, selected externally and held independent of First. The board's role is to monitor First Trust's management team and ensure that shareholders' interests are well served.
